In case of a traffic accident check the other person involved in the accident with his/her documents:

  • name, surname and place of residence of the driver
  • name, surname and place of residence or trade name and place of business of the vehicle owner
  • trade name and place of business of the insurer, with which the Motor Third-Party Liability Insurance was concluded, and the number of the insurance policy
  • registration (plate) number of your vehicle, by which the damage was caused.

In case that:

  • a person is injured or killed upon the traffic accident,
  • a material damage occurs on any of the involved vehicles including the transported items or other property exceeding the amount of CZK 100.000,-,
  • a material damage was caused to a property of a third party, with the exception of damage to a vehicle whose driver is at the scene of the accident,

Report the traffic accident without any delay to the Police of the Czech Republic.

If no injury or death occurred upon the accident and the originating damage has not exceed CZK 100.000,- you do not have to report the accident to the Police of the Czech Republic.

Fill in the form of the loss with other parties involved in the road traffic accident. You can use the universal form „European Report of a Traffic Accident“. If you do not have any such form available, write down if possible together with other participants involved in the accident a written document, in which you state all basic identification data regarding the accident (date, time and place of the accident), the parties involved and the involved vehicles and describe, how the accident occurred and what damage and to whom was suffered. Do not forget to add contacts to the witnesses, a plan or a sketch of the place of the accident, photo documentation of the place of the accident etc.

Without unreasonable delay announce to the insurer, with which you have concluded the Motor Third-Party Liability Insurance, that a loss event has occurred, specifying the facts of this event. Also submit to this loss event the respective documents and during the investigation proceed in accordance with the insurer’s instructions.

In case you could not find out from the offender the information about his/her Motor Third-Party Liability insurer, you can search this insurer in the Information centre of the Czech Insurers‘ Bureau here. 

Compensation

The injured party can make his claim for compensation namely:

A) with the respective insurer, if in the column „Search result“ appears the information about this insurer after you have entered date of the accident and vehicle registration (plate) number of liable vehicle;                                                      

B) with the Czech Insurers’ Bureau, if in the column „Search result“ does not appear any information about the respective insurer and the injured party did not receive the information about the insurer of the liable party’s vehicle.                                                       

For compensation from the Czech Insurers’ Bureau guarantee fund, please fill on-line form here. 

You should supply especially following documents:

  • documents proving that a damage has been caused, plus its specification (e.g. personal injury, material damage, etc.),
  • documents proving the legal ground of claim for compensation (e.g. Police Report, witnesses’ testimony),
  • documents proving scope and amount of vehicle’s damage (e.g. photographs of the damage, record of vehicle’s damage, copy of registration book of the damaged vehicle, etc.),
  • any other documents if necessary.

Upon receiving your Report of the Claimant the Czech Insurers’ Bureau will make a record of it and will let you know of further steps that will take place.
